Yahoo - Advice and Information
This is the oldest directory on the
web and until recently used to be edited by ‘humans'. Now
they have adopted the crawl technology that google has used for
several years. Whilst not as popular as google, yahoo still remains
a well used search engine by many people.
To get listed you can submit your site using the following link
http://uk.docs.yahoo.com/ukie/express/splash.html
This will provide you with two options.
The first is their standard process, which is free, but may take
time for your application to be processed. This service is aimed
at non commercial websites.
Alternatively you may prefer to pay for their Yahoo Express service
which costs £199. This guarantees that your site will be
considered within 7 days and should be used for commercial websites.
Submitting a commercial site under the free submission should
be avoided as this may delay your listing and at worst lead to
Yahoo penalising your site.
However, it is possible to achieve a listing without actually
submitting you site and it may be argued that spending the money
is a waste. A listing can be achieved by acquiring links to your
site from other websites. This means that when Yahoo searches
these sites they find links to your site. If you have enough links
you will achieve a natural listing.
Another method of fast inclusion on Yahoo is to use the Overture
pay per click (PPC) advertising. Yahoo uses Overture for its sponsored
links. If you start to bid on your relevant key words you will
be placed in the listings depending on the amount of money that
you bid compared to your competitors. In addition to this several
other directories use Overture to produce their listings.
