Business News - Mandatory Retirement Age
The task force charged with deciding whether to abolish mandatory
retirement ages under the upcoming age discrimination regulations
is in deadlock over the issue. They are due to have their final
meeting on 12 November 2004 yet look unlikely to come to an agreement
on the issue.
There is disagreement on whether the retirement age should be
abolished altogether, whether retirement should be a phased process
or whether the retirement age should be retained as 65.
The task force consists of business people, trade unions and campaign
groups. However it is the government that will have to make the
final decision on the matter.
